Robert Caryl Tolhurst, age 78, of Mattawan, passed away at his home with his family by his side on November 16, 2017. He was born in Wayland, Michigan on February 24, 1939.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Evelyn (Kelley) Tolhurst, five children, Deborah Stickney, Sheila (Mark) Gill, Curtis (Freda) Tolhurst, Rhonda (Joseph) Jones, and Angela Young, eight grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Kuhl, Robert (Lindsey) Spicher, Stephen (Billee) Honda, Meagan Spicher, Alexis Stickney, Brandon Gill, Kristin Tolhurst and Steven Tolhurst, six great grandchildren, his brother, Ed (Char) Tolhurst and four sisters, Mary (Gordy) Navis, Lois Edwards, Bonnie Brenner and Judy (Chuck) Flanner. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Tolhurst. Bob served his country in the Army and retired after many years of driving truck for Amoco Oil. He was a member of the American Legion McGowan-Johnson Post in Paw Paw. Bob enjoyed racing and often visited the local race tracks where he would make new friends and enjoy good food. He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home; Bob treasured these trips and had hoped to take just one more. He enjoyed any kind of ice cream and telling a good joke. Above all, Bob was a loving husband and father and will be missed by his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and reception will be held at the Adams Funeral Home in the spring.
