Sylvia Angela (Chokas) Kowalski

Sylvia Angela Kowalski, 84, of Paw Paw, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at her home.
She was born January 15, 1935 in Chicago, the daughter of Angelo Chokas and Eva (Mueller) Chokas.
On September 25, 1954 she married Thomas A. Kowalski who preceded her in death in 1996.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Marie (Randal) Kowalski-Ortlieb, six Grandchildren, Jeremy Schuett, Stacy Lee Kowalski, Nicole (Jeremy) Troutman, Kristy (Britton) Mitchell, Jalyn Kowalski and Jerran Kowalski; great-granddaughter, Anna Troutman; three sisters, Sophia Daggit, Demi (Doug) McNaughton and Helena (Ed) Jaco, along with many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Kowalski in 2001.
Sylvia was known to many as “Aunt Sylvia” around the community, her family and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. Among entertaining over the years, Sylvia enjoyed trips to the casino. She was active parishioner at Saint Mary Catholic Church and School, active with the Paw Paw Village Players and was a founding board member of the Paw Paw Elk’s. For many years she was employed at St. Julian Winery managing the hospitality room as well as tours and wine tasting.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 7, 2019 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Paw Paw, where Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Joseph Xavier officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at Saint Mary Church following the cemetery committal.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be divided among several organizations.
