Darlene Matlock, 96, of Coloma went home peacefully in her sleep to be with her Lord and Savior on April 12, 2023.
A service celebrating her life was held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 17 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Coloma with pastors Flynn Kettell and Michael Schmid officiating. Burial followed at North Shore Memory Gardens. The family greeted friends beginning one hour prior to the service. Donations in memory of Darlene may be made to the First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a long time faithful member.
Darlene was born September 19, 1926 in Searcy, Ark. To Clyde and Bertha Sterling. On June 12, 1943 she married Cecil Matlock and the family then moved to Michigan in 1950. Darlene worked at Avion Coach, Grand Transformers, and Shepherd Castors before retiring in 1988. She loved her church family very much and that is where you would find her every Sunday unless she was sick.
Survivors include her children; Betty (Willie) Juengling, Carl (Robin) Matlock, Keith (Rhonda) Matlock, Roger Matlock, and Carol (Cletiaus) Thompson; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Nelly Jo (Charles) Varner; brother, Jimmy (Sheri) Sterling, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, a son Glen, a grandson Jason Arndt, and three siblings, Imagene Edward, LeRoy Sterling, and Junell Goff.
Darlene was known for her deep devotion to her family and her church. She loved shopping and always wanted to be on the go. She will be greatly missed.
