With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of a compassionate and spirited soul, Dorothy May Daniels, on September 20, 2023. Born on September 4, 1946, in South Gate, California, Dorothy’s life was a tapestry of love, joy, and an unwavering commitment to her family. Her thoughtful nature and nurturing spirit were the cornerstones of her existence. As Maya Angelou beautifully said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Dorothy made everyone feel loved and cherished.
Dorothy was a loving woman known for her understanding nature, and her radiant smile that could light up any room. She was raised in South Gate, California, and later moved to Six Lakes, Michigan. Recently, she had found a new home in Buchanan, Michigan. Over her lifetime, Dorothy wore many hats with grace. Professionally, she served as a medical biller in the healthcare sector until her retirement. However, her most cherished role was that of a mother and grandmother and aunt. She was the family anchor, guiding her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews through life’s storms and was admired by all for her unwavering support and sage advice.
Besides her family, Dorothy had a profound love for life’s simple pleasures. She was a member of the Red Hats Society, and was dedicated to her Catholic faith. In her leisure time, she reveled in sewing, crocheting, and dancing. She was renowned for her delicious apple and chocolate pies, her baking skills becoming a beloved family tradition.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Keith (Rose) Daniels, Suzanne (Alan) Ferguson, and Raymond (Leah) Daniels. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Alan Ferguson II, Ryan Ferguson, Alicia Ferguson, Brett Daniels, Evan Daniels, Cristina, Nicholas, Joseph, David and Sarah. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Iva Bailey, her brothers, Dennis and Robert Bailey, her sister Mary Hardman her dear grandson, Christopher Ferguson, and her loving husband, John Daniels.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held from 10 am – 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Hoven Funeral Home, 414 E. Front St., Buchanan, MI. Funeral Mass will be held at Noon on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at St. Anthony Parish, 509 W. Fourth St., Buchanan, MI. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Niles, MI.
As we mourn the loss of our beloved Dorothy, we also celebrate her vibrant life, filled with love, care, and unforgettable moments. We warmly encourage all who knew Dorothy to share their memories and photos on her memorial page. In the words of Albert Pine, “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” Dorothy’s love, kindness, and spirit have indeed left an immortal mark on us all.
