Pamela Berndt passed away early morning of November 26th, 2023 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born on October 30th, 1952 to Earl “Red” and Eleanor (Shugars) Tomsa in South Haven, Michigan.
Visitation for Pam will be held on Friday December 8, 2023 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church 718 Arbor Ct. South Haven Michigan, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Pastor Stephen Daley will officiate. Pam will be laid to rest at North Shore Memory Gardens.
Pam is survived by her Husband of 47 years Charles Berndt, children; Mandalynn (Dalton) Wickersham, Hillary Berndt, Kirsten Williams, son Timothy (Jessica) Berndt, Samantha Blagg and grandchildren; Micah Wilcox, Roselynne Seils, Hayli Wilcox, Jacob Berndt, Elijah Seils, Noah Remick, Jonah Blagg, Phoebe Blagg, and Jocelyn Berndt.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Eleanor Tomsa, grandson Kaleb Berndt, brother Randy Tomsa, and sister Sharon Bloodworth.
Pam was a lifelong resident of South Haven and graduated high school in 1971. On October 23rd, 1976 she married her Soulmate Charles Berndt and was blessed with 5 wonderful children. She was a life time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and attended Dr. Martin Lutheran College in New Ulm. Minnesota to become a Lutheran school teacher. Pam was very active at St. Paul’s she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was the president of Ladies Aid, led Girl’s Pioneers, and served the school as a teacher’s aide and room mother. She had a passion to help everyone. She had a daycare and made cakes as her children were in school and later in life worked in the Bakery at Village Market and then Golden-Brown Bakery. Pam was very active in her community leading several 4-H projects for over 50 years, she was the Rabbit Superintendent at the Van Buren Youth Fair for over 30 years. She led a local Ladies Bunco group which was originally started by her Great Grandmother Lilian for over 40 years. When her children attended Michigan Lutheran High School, she was busy helping out where ever she could sewing costumes, keeping sports scores, and running concessions with her husband and Mr. & Mrs. Lockwitz. Pam loved music and fishing and sharing her knowledge with everyone. She could teach you how to milk a goat and make a wedding cake.
