HIS JOURNEY HOME TO GLORY

“In life we have pleasures with our loved ones, we have sorrows and joy, but thank God for the memories that death cannot destroy.”

Again death has invaded the ranks of the Allen Family and the Greater Community Church Family carrying away our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Deacon Darrell Roy Allen.

The late Deacon Leroy Allen and Mother Ora Allen-McNutt was blessed with a precious baby boy on September 13, 1952 in Benton Harbor, MI and named him, Darrell Roy Allen.  Darrell was the third child born to this union.

Darrell graduated from the Benton Harbor Sr. High School in 1971.  Darrell was a lover of baseball. He played Little League Baseball and JV Basketball for Benton Harbor High School.  His love for baseball created fond memories with his wife, children, and grandchildren traveling to Chicago to cheer on the Chicago Cubs and pro basketball games.   Darrell often rose early in the morning to enjoy a day of fishing with family and friends.  He was an awesome cook, baker and was the ultimate grill master.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtained favor of the Lord. Proverbs 18:22 Darrell found his good thing and united in Holy Matrimony to the queen of his life, Gwendolyn Edwards on August 21, 1981.

Darrell accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very young age at Community Church of God In Christ, now (Greater Community Christian Fellowship) under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel (Pappa) Wells Sr. Darrell was a true servant of the Lord. He severed in many capacities of the church including Security Team, Board of Directors Trustee member, and the Finance Department. He was appointed to the Deacon’s Board under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel Wells Jr. and has remained faithful in service under the pastoral guidance of Pastor Nathaniel Wells III. Deacon Allen loved the Lord and his church family.

Deacon Allen took pride in taking care of his wife and family. He retired in 2010 after many years of service from Bosch Inc.

For we know to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 Deacon Darrell Roy Allen pulled off morality and put on immorality making the transition to his heavenly home on Monday, August 15, 2022.

Precious memories of his life will forever live in the heart of his grade-school sweetheart, Gwendolyn Allen; eight children, David (Stephanie) Allen, Larry (Latrice) Sanders, Lamar (Ronnella) Sanders, Nicholas (Ashely) Seawood-Allen, Brian (Shaquila) Allen, Kevin Allen, Ericka Williams, Shanelle (Albert) Whitfield, and Cassandra Allen; (30) grandchildren; (2) great-grandchilren; (3) brothers, Larry (Corliss) Allen, Freddie Allen, and Bruce (Linda) Allen; (3) sisters, Doris (Albert) Moore, Debra (Rommie) Allen, and Pamela Washington; (2) aunts, Ethel Jones and Georgia Mae Merritt and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Greater Community Church family.

Deacon Allen was preceded in death his parents, and one son, Leroy Allen.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
