Robert Tyson, Jr. (or “Rob” as he was affectionately called by family and friends) was born in Chicago, IL on December 28, 1965, to Robert and Doris Tyson. Unexpectedly, Rob passed away in his sleep on Sunday, May 7, 2023. His family thanks God for the time that they were blessed to have him.
Robert grew up on the south side of Chicago, attending Christian schools ultimately graduating high school from Shiloh S.D.A. Academy. After high school, he attended DeVry University before moving to Michigan to attend Andrews University for electrical engineering. It was at this time, Robert met his future wife, Tameka Anderson, whom he married on June 28, 1992. This union was blessed with 2 loving daughters, Kimberlyn Elizabeth and Ashlyn Adele.
As a teenager and into adulthood, Robert was not only ambidextrous, but was very competitive and enjoyed playing basketball, softball, and bowling. Thus, the start of his quest to become the most dedicated Chicago White Sox and Bears fan – win or lose! Later in life, fishing, golf, and skiing became his new favorite sports. Robert carried his poles with him at all times. He especially enjoyed fishing off of the pier while watching the sun rise. One of Robert’s recent hobbies was making and selling specialty fishing rods. Robert also performed most of his own auto repair, tinkering until he got things just right and back in working order. Also, an avid reader, Robert enjoyed military thrillers.
Working for the Berrien County Juvenile Center was one of the highlights of Robert’s career. He was dedicated to providing guidance and being a positive influence for youth staying at the center, working a total of 17 years as a Youth Specialist. Robert was also proud of his second career working as a supervisor at Four Winds Casino & Resort for 9 years before retiring.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Tameka; his two daughters, Kimberlyn and Ashlyn; his sister, Robin (George, Jr.) Golliday; two nieces, Dr. Julia Locklear and Melissa Golliday; special cousins, Stacey Bell and Cheryle Brown Crawford; and many treasured relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert, Sr. and Doris Tyson and a sister, Jenny Marie Brazelton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
