Sarah “Pumpkin” Phipps-King, 63 of Benton Harbor unexpectantly passed away on July 19, 2023 at Corewell Health South, St. Joseph.
Sarah was born in Chicago, IL on September 18, 1959, the daughter of the late Henry Anderson and Cora “Price” Anderson. She was the second of five children. Sarah accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Benton Harbor.
Sarah was educated in the Chicago Public School System. She attended Burnside Elementary, Harlan High School and Olive Harvey College where she earned a degree in Social Work. She attended LMC in Benton Harbor as well.
Sarah was the mother of three children, Jason and Jermaine Phipps of Benton Harbor and Justin King of Benton Harbor and adopted daughter, Marissa Phipps of Columbus, OH.
Sarah was a very generous, fun loving and caring person. If she had it, you got it. Her family was very important to her and she did whatever it took to help everyone. “We all we got” she would say.
Sarah was a dedicated hard worker. She was employed by Whirlpool Corp., City of Benton Harbor, Riverwood Center and Chemical Bank in Chicago.
Sarah enjoyed her life to the fullest. She visited Las Vegas with her mom and sisters, went to the Price is Right on Bob Barkers last day, took her grandchildren to Disneyland, taste of Chicago. Her favorite place was the casino, where she went with good friends, Cherlyn Kyles, Marie Williams, and Tina Mason.
Sarah is survived by her sons, Jason and Jermaine Phipps of Benton Harbor and Justin King of Benton Harbor; adopted daughter, Marissa Phipps of Columbus; sisters, Angelis Anderson of Chicago, Temorren Anderson of Portage, MI; brother, Andre Anderson of Portage; 13 grandchildren, Janiya Phipps, Jason Phipps Jr. and Keyshawn Wright, JaTarius Si’Nyah, Tah’Miyah, Jermaine, Jamir, Anaveah, Ja’Deon, Jream Phipps and Justin King Jr.; nephews, Timothy, Terrance, Travis Anderson of Kalamazoo, Christopher Anderson of Benton Harbor, Donald Anderson of MN, Octavious Simms, Ameer Price of Atlanta; niece, Yolanda Williams; a host of great nieces , great nephews, cousins, family and friends.
