
Pauline (Wilson) Walker was born on May 11, 1934, in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Willie Mac Wilson and the late Ellen Bray Jones Wilson. At an early age, she confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1948 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Pauline was joined in holy matrimony to Moses Walker in 1950. She subsequently joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in 1951.
Pauline attended Benton Harbor High School and was later one of the first enrollees in the newly developed General Education Development (GED) program in SW Michigan. After successfully completing this program, she attended Lake Michigan Community College. She later received her Certifications in biblical studies from the Luther Rice Seminary of Conroe, Texas.
Her employment history includes light assembly work for the V-M Corporation, head cook for the famous Blakes on the Lake in St. Joseph and many years for The Country Kitchen. She was also a Caregiver through Berrien County Department of Social Services.
As a faithful and resolute servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, for over 25 years Mother Walker was the President of the Adult choir of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Walker was also a member of the Pastor’s Aide, Gospel Chorus, Prayer band, Mother’s Board, and many other church auxiliaries. She was also a beloved Sunday School Teacher and served as a certified delegate of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America.
Pauline loved to sing and was a former member of the Benton Harbor Community Choir and a delegate for the NMBCOA BTU & Sunday School conference for over 50 years. She was a dedicated member of The Twin Cities Quartette Union Local 20-2 for over 30 years. Pauline sang soprano in The Humble Gospel Singers Quartette, alongside her sisters Bernice Mitchell, Lillian Hicks and niece, Debra Mitchell-Fox. Other members consisted of Rosie McAllister, Willie Mae Buchanan, Rose Sallie, and Jean Hall.
Mother Walker always had a smile on her face and kind words to all those she loved and encountered. Left to cherish her fond memories are three daughters, Trudy(Dennis) Butler of Southfield, MI, Janet Walker of Indianapolis, IN, Barbara Robbins of Benton Harbor, MI; sister Lillian Wells Hicks of Benton Harbor; daughter-in-law Audrey Walker of New Orleans, LA; brother-in-law Chet Walker of Long Beach, CA; two sisters-in-law Hazel Lacy and Lawanda Walker of Benton Harbor; grandchildren Michael Walker, Larina Robbins, Sherry Walker, Curtis (Alissa)Walker, Joy Walker, and Jerald Clark, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Moses Walker and son Jerry Michael Walker.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
