Barbara M. Corson, a cherished mother and friend, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on July 24, 1936, in Peoria, Illinois, Barbara’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and friendship. Her final days were spent in Niles, Michigan, surrounded by the love of her family, as she concluded a life well-lived.
Barbara’s journey through life was marked by her dedication to her work. For over twenty-five years, she was a trusted employee at the Simplicity Pattern Company in Niles, where she formed friendships and through her disciplined work ethic gained respect from everyone. Following her tenure at Simplicity, Barbara contributed her talents to Fapco Inc. for fifteen years, where she continued to exemplify perfection and integrity until her well-deserved retirement.
Outside of her work life, Barbara spent her free time over the years with both family and friends camping, entertaining with euchre and pinochle card games, bowling in various leagues in Niles, crocheting, dabbling in ceramics and in her own quiet way being a kind and caring person. As a grandma she was able to help care for her grandchildren in any needed way, picking them up from school, keeping them for a few hours or even helping with the other “ kids” aka canine varieties. All of them loved it when they could be with her. Above all, Barbara treasured the time she spent with her family, recognizing that these moments were the true fabric of a fulfilling life.
Barbara’s legacy is carried on by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Goldie E. Jones; her former husband, John R. Pletcher; and her husband, George Corson. Her memory will be lovingly preserved by her children, Ralph (Melissa) Pletcher of Niles, Sheryl (Rick) Steenwyk of Irons, Michigan, and Alan Pletcher of Concord, North Carolina. Barbara was a beacon of love and joy for her six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Barbara will be remembered for all the heart she shared with family and friends. She truly loved each of them and if you knew her, you knew it. She had her own way of living her life, unassuming and endeavoring to do her best.
Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the West Woods of Niles Activity Fund at 1911 Stateline Road, Niles, Michigan 49120.
