Clara Elizabeth Fletcher, 102, died November 3 at Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Stevensville.
Friends are invited to meet with the family at Fairplain Presbyterian Church, 210 W. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor on Saturday, November 25 at 11 am followed by a celebration of Clara’s life at 12:15. Clara was born July 18, 1915 to Benton and Clara Foust in Monon, IN. She graduated from Brookstone High School in 1933. Clara married Wayne B Fletcher on February 13, 1937. They had two daughters and one son, Sharron (Tom) Porter, Janet Kay (Tom) Doyle and Robert Wayne Fletcher.
Their grandchildren include Nancy (Clarence)Korendyke, Kathleen (Jack) Dutke, Linda (Darrin) Thornton, Fredrick (Kathleen) Doyle, Jeffrey (Tracey) Doyle and Audrey (Dennis James) Pritt, as well as 16 great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Clara worked at the Spinning Wheel in Benton Harbor where she taught knitting and sold yarn. Additionally, Clara worked at Berrien Securities, now First of Michigan, as a receptionist and secretary.
Although she gave her time to Morton Hill Presbyterian Church, she later was one of the founders and charter members of Fairplain Presbyterian Church. She served on Women’s Fellowship, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She also served the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, the Eleanor Club, Women’s Federation, Ossoli and Child Study Club. More recently she served on the Lakeland (Pine Ridge) CCC Volunteer Board and as a representative of the Residence Council.
Clara loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling and cheering for the CUBS.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Fletcher, son Robert Fletcher, her parents Benton and Clara Foust, brothers Zacharia, Benton and Robert Reed Foust, sister Mary Ruth Harrington, son-in-law Thomas Porter, brothers-in-law Riley Harrington and Ira Brown, sisters-in-law Zelma Held, Imogene Brown and Joan Foust.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fairplain Presbyterian Church choir/music committee, the Pine Ridge Facility or Hospice.
