The Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition meeting will feature overdose prevention training presented by the Voice. Change. Hope. Alliance.
Every day in 2017, on average, over seven Michiganders died from drug overdose. This is more Michigan deaths than from traffic accidents and firearms combined. It is an increase of 8% from 2016 and experts believe drug overdose deaths are underreported. Moreover, a drug overdose may be a suicide attempt.
An overdose victim’s life can be saved with a dose of the antidote, Naloxone (Narcan). Naloxone reverses the effects of opioids such as heroin, methadone, morphine, opium, codeine, or hydrocodone, but does not counter the effect of other types of drugs.
The public is invited to this free training event to learn more about the use of Naloxone and to receive a free Naloxone kit.
