The Journey in Faith team at St. Joseph Catholic Church is presenting a community faith development program on art as a doorway to prayer. The program will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 9:00 am and will conclude at 12:30 PM. The program will be conducted at the Rose Center on the corner of Pleasant and Wayne Streets, just east of Lake Michigan Catholic High School. This program will be led by Fr. Peter Fennessy, SJ.
Fr. Fennessy is a Jesuit priest who leads retreats at the Manresa Jesuit Retreat House in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He has degrees in Classics, Philosophy and Theology. He has also taken classes in art and theology. His program will look at art as the doorway to prayer. Members of all faith traditions are invited to attend.
“Art has a rich history in the church,” said Fr. Bob Creagan, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church. “in addition to act as inspiration for the faithful,” added Fr. Creagan, “art has been used to teach important religious concepts, as well as articulate feelings of spiritual beliefs for people at a loss for words.” Fr. Creagan is excited that this program will be available to people in Southwestern Michigan at his parish.
Fr. Fennessy’s program will look at art in the church and how it has inspired people through the ages. He will use a multimedia approach in looking at various form of art and reflect on its use in inspiring and representing prayer. The program will begin with a light breakfast just prior to Fr. Fennessey’s program. The program is sponsored by the Journey in Faith team at St. Joseph Catholic Church at no charge to any participants.
The Journey in Faith team is comprised of members of St. Joseph Catholic Church to provide adult programs to inspire and promote spiritual growth as people move on their “journey in faith” in life.
