Following a welcome and introduction by Mary Alice Adams, City of Benton Harbor Commissioner, the Benton Harbor Girls Academy’s students will enter dressed and speaking in character as their favorite Black history figures. Performances will include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and music and dance selections. “Now Let Me Fly” by Marcia Cebulska, a one-act play about the unsung heroes and heroines in the battle for civil rights, will be featured. As a special dimension of this cultural celebration, guests can sample an array of authentic African-American cuisine made by the students’ parents. The community is invited to attend “Celebrating Our Black Heritage” free of charge. However, due to limited seating, please RSVP by calling the school by Thursday, February 9th.
