The Lions Club of St. Joseph will be conducting its annual White Cane Campaign during the month of October, 2020. The club has also created a Go Fund Me account to offset anticipated income losses in traditional fund-raising activities. This includes the annual Holiday Arts and Craft Show that traditionally takes place on the first Saturday of November. The cancellation of these fundraising activities will seriously impact upon the club’s ability to serve the community.
The club has created a White Cane Sale Go Fund Me account to offset anticipated changes in club income for the coming year. This is critical if the club will continue to provide services to the community in the coming year. Please consider joining the campaign to serve the St. Joe Community by contributing to our White Cane Sale Go Fund Me account. The link to the Go Fund Me account is https://www.gofundme.com/f/wrazh-st-joe-lions-white-cane-campaign. Or contributions can be mailed to The St. Joseph Lions Club. PO Box 352, St. Joseph, MI, 49085.
The traditional street corner sale at the corner of State and Broad Streets in downtown St. Joseph will take place on Friday, October 16, 2020. Lions will be on the corner to take contributions to support club activities.
The St. Joe Lions Club was established in 1928 as a community service organization with the motto “We Serve.” The club responded to a challenge by Helen Keller to be “knights of the blind” and has responded to this charge by providing eyeglasses and vision exams to those in need in our area. It has also been a sponsor of Vision Outreach International by helping in its vision surgery activities in third world countries. The club annually places American flags on the graves of veterans at Riverview Cemetery. The Lions also help sponsor Lions Beach, paints swing supports along Lake Bluff Park, paints picnic benches at many of the city parks, and has helped the city to purchase playground equipment and recycling containers.
The St. Joe Lions provide college scholarship to local high school students, help sponsor the St. Joe High School “Average Joes” robotics team, contributed to the construction of the high school Edward Todd Innovation Center and athletic scoreboards. But the signature activity for the club is “Camp Leo,” a weeklong camping experience for cognitively, physically, visually and hearing challenged youth in our community.
